POOR FISHING SEASON
WANGANUI STREAMS REPEATED FLOODING OCCURS "The fishing season.has been a poor one owing to repeated flooding, of streams. It is almost certain too that there has been heavy mortality of young fish duo to the silt-laden condition of the waters," states the annual report of the Wanganui Acclimatisation Society. " The Mangawhero River suffered severely in this respect, particularly in the lower reaches in the society's district. Admittedly weather conditions have been abnormal, but if such flooding is likely to be at all frequent, it will be a matter for the committee's considerationwhether the expenditure on this stream will be justified in future."
