MOTOR-CYCLIST FINED
SEQUEL TO COLLISION BREACH OF RIGHT-HAND RULE A charge of failing to observe the right-hand rule was preferred against Mervyn James Keeley, a motor-cyclist (Mr. Leonard), who appeared before Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., in tho Magistrate's Court at Otahuhu yesterday. Defendant pleaded not guilty. Sergeant J. Cahill said defendant's machine collided with a motor-van at the intersection of Great South and Sylvia Park Poads, Westfield, shortly after 7 a.m. on February 20. Defendant was injured and detained in hospital for some time.
Evidence was given by the driver of the van, and a passenger, that defendant entered the main road and accelerated to cross in front of the van. A cyclist said he saw tho motor-cycle crash into the side of the van near the contro of tho road. Defendant said ho entered tho main road in low gear and had actually crossed to his correct side when the van swung out and caused the collision.
The magistrate said tho evidence was definitely against defendant, who would be convicted. He was fined £1 and £2 4s costs.
