THE AUCKLAND EXCHANGE REOPENING AFTER HOLIDAY Quiet conditions ruled in the investment market on the Auckland Stock Exchange yesterday, when it reopened after the Easter vacation. Buyers were cautious and, with holders operating sparingly, only a limited number of gales resulted. There were practically no sellers of Government bonds, only three issues being on offer. A parcel of 1946 4 per cent stock was transferred unaltered at £lO3. Interest in banks was weak. Commercials of Australia were strongly sought, however, and three sales resulted at tho unchanged price of 20s. Concessions by holders of "Unions of Australia led to a transaction 2s lower at £ ( >> 16s. Offers for New Zealands rose during the day and closed at -15s 6d. In the loan and agency section Farmers' Auctioneering, B preference, wero taken 6d higher at 225. In the first sale for a month Taupiri Coal dropped back 3d to 16s 3d. Auckland Gas gained Id on tho closing price of 26s before the holidays. Current level 6ales were made in Northern Steam and Kauri Timber. >"ew Zealand Breweries sold twice Id lower at 52s 3d. Farmers' Trading failed to maintain closing prices and were secured Id cheaper at 9s 4d. Weakness was evident in" Union Oil, which lost Is on the last sale over a month ago. Wilsons Cement continued to rise, sell•ing at 425,/ a gain of Is.
