SHORTER WORKING WEEK
UNITED AUSTRALIA PARTY APPROVAL OF PRINCIPLE SYDNEY. April 18 The' United Australia Party',9 convention approved the principle of the 40-hour week. It was decided to urge the Federal Government to examine methods by which economic and constitutional difficulties precluding the immediate adoption of the 40-hour week might be overcome. Sir Frederick Stewart, formerly Federal Minister of Trade and Commerce, pleaded for the application of a shorter working week to Australian industries. The motion, which was moved by Sir Frederick, was agreed to by a large majority.
