FINAL DAY AT RANDWICK SILVER RING WINS PLATE PROTEST AGAINST ORO UPHELD SALAMANDER PLACED FIRST (Received April 19, 5,5 p.m.) SYDNEY, April 19 The Australian Jockey Club was favoured with fine weather and a splendid attendance for tho final day of its autumn meeting at Randwick yesterday, when the track was in good order. B. 11. Payten, trainer of Salamander, lodged a protest against Oro being declared the winner of the Dangar Handicap owing to interference in the straight. The protest was upheld, Salamander being placed first and Oro second. Silver Ring followed up his victory in tho Cumberland Stakes on Wednesday with a brilliant success in the A.J.C. Plate. The New Zealander dashed to tho front at barrier-rise and led throughout to win by a length and ahalf. Tho jockey, A. E. Ellis, gave a splendid exhibition of riding and in no small measure was the winner's success due to his efforts. When ncaring the five furlongs Ellis allowed Silver Ring a "breather," enabling the field to close on the leader, but, after a sharp tussle in tho straight. Silver Ring won comfortably. Following the upholding of the protest in tho Dangar Handicap, tho stewards announced that J. B. Pratt, rider of Oro, had been suspended for a month for careless riding. An interesting feature of the A.J.C. Plato was that three of tho four competitors were ridden by New Zealanders, and tho fourth, Lough Neagh, by a Qtieenslander, F. Shean. K. Voitre rode Master Brierly, M. McCarten Contact and A. E. Ellis Silver Ring. McCarten and D. Munro had a great contest for, supremacy over the four days of the meeting. Each rode four ■winners and two seconds, but McCarten had two thirds to Munro's one. W. Cook, who recently returned from India, rode three winners, three seconds and threo thirds. E. Britt, who is also on a brief visit to his homeland before returning to India, had two rides on the final day for one winner, Silver Standard, in tho last race.
