RETURNED SOLDIERS
WESTERN ASSOCIATION . Nearly 100 members attended the annual meeting of the Western Suburbs Returned Soldiers' Association at Henderson on Thursday night. The annual report showed that during the past financial year £1026 had been disbursed for the relief of distressed exservicemen. Since its formation the association has disbursed over £.'5000 in the relief of distress in its district. The association, which was inaugurated 'four years ago with six members, now has 342 active members. The previous year's membership was 270. The following officers were elected: — President, Mr Roland Woods; vicepresidents. Mr. C. M. Moone.v and Mr. C. E. Sayer; hon. auditor, Mr. N. It. Cathie: hon. treasurer, Mr. W. H. Roberts; hon. secretary, Mr. W. E. Lowe; padre, the Rev. John Cable. ONEHUNGA ASSOCIATION PROGRESS IN PAST YEAR Definite progress made last year by the Onehunga Returned Soldiers' Association is recorded in the report of the retiring president, Mr. J. Kennedy Ross, presented to members at the annual meeting held on Saturday evening. The total meinbership'of the branch is 389, and appreciation is expressed of the support given to various functions and activities organised by the executive committee, special thanks being accorded the honorary secretary, Mr. N. A. Ching, for his services in connection with pension appeals. Mention is also made of. the great assistance rendered by the ladies and the distress committee.
The revenue for the year amounted to £'9o6, including £232 canteen fund receipts and £157 war funds council grants. War relief and canteen funds disbursements amounted to £417, donations to the mental patients fund £3l, Poppy Day grants, £46, and material for the ladies' distress committee £ls, leaving a credit balance of £B6. Upward of 200 members were present and they unanimously deprecated bv resolution any encroachment on the sanctity of 'Anzac Day.
The following officers were elected:— Patron, Major F. 0. Soar; president, Mr. F. Warrington; vice-president, Mr. W. Frirrell; treasurer. Mr. W. H. Zuill; auditor, Mr. A. C. Howe; committee, Messrs. A. Buckley, G. Fletcher, A. Gibson, M. Haimainen, T. Keinzley, H. Miller, W. Phillips, C. Scopes, L. Smith, P. Strong, F. Vallelly, E. Woolf.
