BOROUGH FINANCES
POSITION AT TE KUITI SURPLUS AT END OF YEAR [by telegraph—owx correspondent] TE KUITI. Saturday The Tc Kuiti Borough Council ended the year with a credit of £1027. When allowance is made for a deposit of £350 held by the borough, an actual surplus of £677 is available for special works during the coming year. The 1935-36 year was commenced with a credit of £399 in hand. Receipts amounted to £12,355, and expenditure to £11,672. The items covered by the estimates provided for a revenue of £10,628. The receipts, mainly due to gains in rate collections, exceeded this amount by £516, while expenditure on items covered by the estimates was £298 less. Of the current European rates 82.1 per cent was collected and 4.7 per cent of the Maori rates. COLLECTION OP RATES GOOD RESULTS AT HAMILTON [from our own correspondent] HAMILTON, Saturday At the close of the financial year on March 31, the Hamilton Borough Council had received 93.28 per cent of the total current rates levied. This figure is above last year's percentage at tho corresponding date, when the collection totalled 90 per cent. The position is regarded as highly satisfactory.
