HUSBAND BETRAYED
STORY OF ESPIONAGE WIFE REVEALS SECRET LONDON. April 1 After giving evidence against her husband, Francoise Marguerite Cridlig, a 20-years-old actress. Was acquitted on a charge of betraying secrets regarding the fortifications of Metz to Germany. The husband, Sergeant Cridlig, of a French anti-aircraft regiment, was sentenced to five years' imprisonment for selling the design of an anti-aircraft gun to Professor Altmeyer, a German, for £9OO. The latter received a similar sentence. Francoise Cridlig, who was married last year, went to the Saar, where she aroused suspicion by her extravagance, and the authorities delegated a handsome young officer to woo her She proved so susceptible to his charms that she revealed her husband's suspicious relations with Altmeyer. When the two men were arrested, Francoise went to Morocco, where she won a beauty contest, and was arrested as she stepped up on the stage to receive the prize. She was then taken back to Metz.
