MELBOURNE FOOT RACE WIN FOR R. C. McCANN (Received April 13, 10.45 p.m.) MELBOURNE. April 13 The final of the Stawell Gift foot, race (130 yards), the prize for which is the world's richest for an event of the kind, was won to-day by R. C. McCann, of Castlemaine, in the presence of 20,000 people. One of the first to congratulate the winner was Austin Robertson, who had been narrowly beaten in the semi-final. AlcCann, who is a clerk, aged 22, is a versatile athlete. He won the GOO yards professional title during tho visit of the American, E Tolan. To-day's result was:—lt. C. McGnnn (Castlemaine), 6Jyds, 1; <T. P. -McCarthy (South Australia), lOJyds, 2; It. Spargo (Essendon), 92yds, 3. Inches separated tho three first men. Time, 12is.
