FAREWELL SOCIAL

A farewell social v was tendered last week by the members of the fcluntly Methodist Church (o the Rev R. Day, who has been minister in charge of the Huntly circuit for the past two years and leaves shortly on transfer to Waihi. An opportunity was also taken to extend good wishes to Mr. Day on the eve of his marriage to Miss F. Hedley, of Huntly. During the evening vocal items were rendered by Mrs S. A. Clarke, of Taupiri, Rev. Day and Mr. J. J. Turner, duets by Mesdames Clarke and J. .J. Turner, Rev. Day and Mr. W. M. Shaw; recitations by Mrs. E. L. Eraser and a quartette by Mesdames Clarke and Turner and Rev. Day and Mr. Turner. On behalf of the Bible Class Miss Davidson expressed the regret of the members at the departure of Mr. Day and Miss Hedley. Mr. W. G. Hughson spoke in eulogistic terms of Mr. Day and on behalf of the congregation presented vach of the guests of honour with a suitcase. Miss F. Hedley briefly responded. In acknowledging the presentation, Mr. Day said he had spent a happy time in Huntly One of his greatest problems had been, however, to find time to concentrate more on Huntly as the circuit was a large one. Ho thanked all who had responded to his appeal and ho was pleased to announce that the church debt of £6B had been paid off and there was a credit balance of £3. He asked that the same loyalty bo extended to his successor, the Rev. B. M. Chrystyill. Mr. Fergusson*, of Ohinewai, who presided, expressed the congregation's regret at Mr. Day's departure and extended best wishes for the future happiness of the guests.
