FATAL CRASH
TWO CARS COLLIDE MAN DIES IN- HOSPITAL THREE SERIOUSLY HURT [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] HASTINGS, Sunday One person was killed and three were seriously injured as a result of a headon collision between two cars on the Napier-Hastings Road at 6.15 last evening. The details are: — Killed Arthur Perry, aged 40, head and chest injuries, died two hours after entering hospital. Injured
Mrs. Bett, compound fracture of the right arm, injuries to the face, and extensive scalp wounds. Condition critical. David Bett, aged 23, fractured jaw and injuries to the right eye. Condition serious. Jessie Bett, head and facial injuries. Condition sorious.
All tho victims resided at 37 Epuni Street, Wellington, and were on a holiday. The accident happened about three miles from Napier. The car containing the victims was of the baby type, and the other car a heavy roadster, containing Mr. Moss Wylie, dentist, and Mr. Allen Kerr, bank clerk, of Hastings, who, although injured, were able to proceed to their homes. The light car was forced right over a fence skirting the railway line, four fencing posts being snapped off. The two cars were locked together. A man working near by heard tho crash and rushed to investigate. He found one of the occupants lying half out of the baby car, unable to extricate himself. The driver of a passing lorry gave assistance. A doctor was called and the injured were taken to the Napier Hospital. The engine of the small car was pushed back under the windscreen and the car is a total wreck. The heavier car was also badly damaged.
