TRAFFIC ON RAILWAYS
RETURNING HOLIDAY-MAKERS HEAVY BOOKINGS FOR TO-DAY There was a comparative lull in Easter holiday train traffic at the weekend, following a large number of arrivals and departures on Thursday and Friday, but excursion trains yesterday were crowded, and officials at the Auckland station were busily engaged in arranging for accommodation for many travellers who will return to their homes to-day. The afternoon and evening expresses for Wellington to-day have been fully booked, but seats are still available on the daylight limited, and the evening relief train, which will leave 40 minutes after the limited. The demand for accommodation on the special train for New Plymouth to leave at 7.18 p.m. has been moderate, and there have not been heavy bookings for other trains. Two extra second-class carriages and one sleeping car had to be attached to the limited express last night in order to cope with the increased demand for accommodation. The train left Auckland with 250 passengers. The New Plymouth train, which was fairly full, carried 140 passengers. Many people travelled between Auckland and Hamilton by excursion trains yesterday. There were 500 people on the 8.35 a.m. train from Auckland to Hamilton, and about the same number returned at 9.39 p.m. A similar train from Hamilton in the morning carried about 350 passengers. The Christchurch Corsair Club's special train from Wellington, consisting of 11 carriages and a van, arrived at 6.33 a.m. with 306 passengers, and left again at 9.45 p.m.
