RICCARTON TRACK ARGENTIC AND FAIR WEATHER [by telegraph—OWN correspondent] CHRISTCHURCH, Saturday Conditions were favourable for the winding-up gallops at Riccarton to-day and a good deal of fast work was witnessed by a fair gathering of track watchers. The outside of the course proper was again open. On the plough Sky Pilot and Wild Chase galloped five furlongs in 1.2 3-5, the two-year-old finishing well in front. Custos, assisted over the last halfmile by Cvrillian, ran six furlongs in 1.17, the first two in 25 l-5s and the first three in 38 l-ss. Custos appears to have overthrown his ailment. Sea Fox attracted attention by reeling off six furlongs in 1.15 2-5, the first three in 36 2-ss.

Sovereign Lady covered seven furlongs well in 1.32 3-5. She should race well next week. Cranford ran the first three of six furlongs in 38 l-ss, and the full journey in 1.19 1-5. Concert Pitch and Pelmet impressed by galloping five furlongs in 1.2 3-5, finishing together. Argentic and Knockfin, from a flying start, ran the first two furlongs of six in 23 4-5s and three in 36 2-ss. Argentic drew away from his mate in the run home and beat her comfortably in 1.15 3-5, while Knockfin took 1.16 3-5. On the course proper, Emissary ran half a mile along the back stretch in 50 4-ss. Tout le Monde and Moonbeam covered six furlongs in 1.18 2-5. Importance, assisted by Sunbeam over the last half-mile, ran seven furlongs in 1.32.

Latitude again hopped away in front of Rona Bay and The Surgeon over the early stages of a mile gallop, and he finished a neck in front of The Surgeon, with Rona Bay tailed off, several lengths away. The first three furlongs took 36 2-ss, the half-mile 49 3-ss, and the full journey 1.41 —an excellent effort. Latitude, who received a good deal of weight from The Surgeon, again gave an attractive display. On the No. 6 grass, Sir Hugh ran half a mile in 51 4-ss. By-Law followed in 52 2-ss.

Fair Weather was a length in front of Silver Streak at the end of five furlongs, run in the smart time of 1.0 2-5, the last throe in 36 3-ss. This is recognised as a short track from a timing point of view, but the gallop, nevertheless, was very attractive. Epic showed his gift of speed by recording 48 3-5s for half a mile, after recording 11 2-5s for the first furlong. UNLIKELY STARTERS LOCHLAGGAN ARRIVES [BY telegraph—OWN correspondent]CHRISTCHURCH, Sunday Unlikely starters at the Canterbury Jockey Club's meeting at Riccarton tomorrow are Osculate, Rival Shot and Sansfoy, .
