SOME USEFUL EFFORTS WHIRLING SPRINTS FREELY ORATORY'S SIX FURLONGS The No. I grass was available for galloping at Elimlie yesterday and a good deal of fast work was accomplished. Whirling and. Queen's Counsel sprinted half a mile in 49 l-ss. They were almost on terms at the finish and did their work in good style. King's Archer was going nicely alongside Spearcourt at the end of half a mile in 53 4-ss. King's Archer is in great heart and should give a good account of himself in the Brighton Hurdles. Leo Colossus and Killadar finished clear of Sandy Dix and Master Musk at the end of five furlongs in 1.4 3-5. Sweet Rose completed her work with a short sprint up the straight. She looks well and should make a good showing in the Eden Handicap. Ned Cuttle completed his work with a 'short sprint and hit out with plenty of freedom. Oratory ran six furlongs from almost a stand in 1.17 3-5, the last live in 1.4 3-5. She is a free mover and did her work pleasingly. Entheos covered six furlongs in 1.20, the last five in 1.5 4-5. Adaleno and Modern Maid were given strong work, the latter going with plenty of freedom over a round. Forest Glow and Widden encompassed a round in 1.57 3-5. L. Knapp's jumpers are in solid racing condition. "Cricket placed six furlongs behind in 1.17 1-5 and Fulojov recorded 1.17 3-5 over the same ground. Happy Landing and Maine were timed to run seven furlongs in 1.37 3-5. Pound Sterling sprinted three furlongs freely in 375. Ho looks improved as a result of his recent racing. Korero covered a round in 1.52. Prince of Orange jumped four hurdles in good style and Curlew gave a satisfactory display over the same fences.

THURSDAY'S GALLOPS GOOD TIMES RECORDED NOTIUM AND REREATU Some attractive gallops were recorded at Ellerslie on Thursday, when most of the fast work was accomplished on the course proper, the poles being 45ft. out. Features of the morning's work were a smart five furlongs by the two-year-old Notium and an excellent six furlongs by Rereatu, who was again lightly weighted. Details of the gallops:— Four Furlongs.—Overdue beat Pari Passu. 50 l-ss. Six Furlongs.—Solas, 1.18 4-5; Rereatu, 1.15; Lady "Graceful, 1.18 2-5; Gay Princess and Hohana, 1.19; Morning Son, 1.20 4-5; Lagoon, Epris and Kilberis, 1.16 4-5. Seven Furlongs.—Kelly and Valspear, 1.31; Happy Landing and Maine, 1.38 3-5; Nun Nicer and Mungatoon beat Psychologist, 1.30; Shy and Knight of Australia beat Mainland, Wee Pat and Persian Lady, 1.31; Royal Appellant and Gay Broney beat Roman Mascot, 1.30; Billy Boy and Town Beauty, 1.3S 2-5; Entail, 1.34 4-5; Greek Shepherd and Spiral, 1.30 4-5; Victor Colima, 1.34 1-5; Vera Acre and Te Hai beat United. 1.31 2-5. Once Round.—Thespis, 2.14 1-5. Scotch Nation (R. E. Thomson), King Mestor (Baker) and Widden (Burgess) were schooled over four hurdles. They went at a fast pace and Scotch Nation gave an attractive display. Diamond -(F. Thompson). Forest Glow (Fergus), Roxv (W. Preston), Adsum (Carmont) and Puccini (Rennie) were schooled over the steeplechase fences. Puccini struck himself after jumping the second fence of the double and was pulled up, being lame afterwards. The others all jumped cleanly. Diamond and Roxy going well to finish in front.

TRIALS AT TE RAPA CAY SETON AND SIRONA [by telegraph—OWN correspondent] HAMILTON, Thursday With the going 25 feet out from the rails in splendid order for fast work, several smart efforts were recorded at Te Rapa this morning. A feature of the work was the seven furlong trial by Gay Seton and Sirona. Rex Victor and Te Monatekapa ran five furlongs in 1.8, the first half-mile in 555. Gay Streak finished in front of Wahine Reihi in 1.5 1-5, the initial half-mile being cut out in 52 2-ss. Both shaped well. , Gay Seton and Sirona finished on terms at the completion of seven furlongs in 1.29 4-5, the first three furlongs taking 37 l-5s and the final halfmile 52 3-ss. It was a good effort by both horses. Orac and a Commandant gelding finished practically on terms over half-a-mile in 50$s, the first three furlongs occupying 36 2-ss. Le Chasseur was doing better than Respectful over half-a-niiTe in 51 3-ss. Lornacre impressed by finishing a length and a-half in front of Racette and All Irish over a round in 2.2 1-5, the first half-mile in 53 l-5s and the seven in 1.314. Lornacre is in forward condition and should make amends before long.

RECORD PROFIT MADE BAY OF PLENTY JOCKEY CLUB [from our own correspondent] TAURANGA. Thursday At a meeting of the committee of the Bay of Plenty Jockey Club, tiie secretary, Mr. S. G. Willcock, presented a statement which disclosed a profit of £IBSO on the recent meeting on the Gate Pa Racecourse. This is a record profit for any meeting held by the club. THOROUGHBRED SALE An unreserved dispersal sale of the racehorses and brood marcs owned by Mr, J. J, Gorry, Blenheim, will be conducted on the Waterlea racecourso on the morning of Saturday, May 9. The stallion Rabbi, sire of the A.J.C. Epsom Handicap winner Synagogue and other winners, will bo included in the offering, and a number of yearlings will also enter the ring. Among the thoroughbreds in training to be sold are Myriam, by Lord Warden; Pawky, Zionist and Adieux, by. Rabbi; Korero and Imasurvey, bv Surveyor; Kozan, by Tea Tray; and Nightguard, by Night Raid. Brood mares include Maritza (Martian —Snowlike), Maritza's daughter by Rabbi, Altar (Kilbroney—Maritza), Imateagirl (Tea Tray—lmaribbon), Rosenur (Kilboy—Roselad), halfsister, by Surveyor, to Rosenur, Makeshift (Diacrjuenod—Rosenur), Miladi (Weathervano Frenzied Finance), Consummation (Grand Knight—Consultation) and Maypay (Paper Money— Trebelli II.). A number of the mares have been stinted to Lord Warden, Cricket Bat and Rabbi.
