Sandy Dix and London should both be capable of creditable performances and The Hiker is likely to run prominently, as he is a good fencer. Puccini injured himself while schooling on Thursday and may not be able to compete. ELLERSLIE FIELDS

OPENING PROGRAMME JHE EASTER HANDICAP FINE CONTEST EXPECTED DISCUSSION OF PROSPECTS The Auckland Racing Club's Autumn Meeting will be opened at Ellerslie today and some highly-interesting sport should be witnessed. Tho chief event, the Easter Handicap, has drawn a large field and a fine contest is anticipated. The course is in first-class order and some smart times are likely to bo registered if the weather remains fine. The single pool system of betting will be in operation. Follow ing are details of the fields, with a review of the prospects in each race by " Archer":— 12.2—PRESIDENT'S HANDICAP, Of £350; 11 miles / st. lb. st. lb. Greek " Maine .... 7 3 Shepherd .92 Tahurangi ..70 ilungatoon . . 8 fi King ]\lusk ..70 Kilberis ... 7 13 Knight of Gay Broney.. 7 9 Australia . 7 0 Lagoon .... 7 8 King Tut ..70 Bonny Gay ..77 Aiawa Rose ..70 Korero .... 7 7 Whakapara ..70 Kelly - .76 United ... 7 0 Flood Tide ... 7 0 Bracket: Lagoon and Mungatoon. Greek Shepherd is set a difficult task for a three-year-old, but ho has earned his weight and is a consistent performer who/should go well. Mungatoon is likely to make a creditable showing and Kilberis should not be out of it if started. Gay Broney has a chance, but a better prospect may be the improving Lagoon, who has been working pleasingly. Bonny Gay and Korero ; should make forward showings and Kelly may take a lot of beating if he happens to reach the front early. Flood Tide should be dangerous and others I likely to add interest to the contest ere Maine, King Musk and Arawa Rose. Jt should be a good betting race and there may £>n solid support for LAG OOX-MUNG ATOON Bracket FLOOD TIDE KING MUSK. 12.42 G.N. OAKS STAKES, Of £500; three-year-old fillies; weight, 8.10; 1} miles Galilee Persian Lady Parquet . *' Light Comedy Oratory / Valise • Fulojoy Lady Graceful ] Palardo Tidalia Galilee has the best performances up i to a mile and she may be very difficult to beat if she settles down and races kindly in the early stages. Parquet has no recent form, but Oratory has shaped •well in the hack class and appears to be a good filly. Fulojov appeals more as a sprinter. Lady Graceful won the New Zealand Oaks and the fact that she has won at the distance will gain her many admirers. Light Comedy has performed/ solidly at a mile and a-quarter in the hack class and she may stay better than most. Valise has wod at a mire and is an improver, although her form is not as good as that of some of the others. The favourites may be

King's Arfcher appears to be at the top of his form and should make a forward showing. Master Musk has been racing consistently well and should be very difficult to beat, more especially as he is jumping with more confidence than formerly and has improved since he last appeared at Ellerslie. Wee Pat should make a good showing and Scotch Nation should be well in the picttire if started. Scotch Nation has had only one race over hurdles and he won in the style of a good horse. In addition, he schooled very well /on Thursday. ' Prince of Orange should make a creditable showing and the best of the others may be Modern Maid, Lap Up and Victor Colima, who should mot be without chances with their light weights. Popular fancies may be ' SCOTCH NATION MASTER MUSK KING'S ARCHER. J.I2—EASTER HANDICAP, Of £BOO- 1 mile st. lb. it. lb. Rereatu is splendidly fit, and should run prominently,, and Nun Nicer can also be relied upon for a sound effort. It is doubtful whether either has ever been better than/at present. Refresher should not. be without prospects and Namakia has run some fine races over the distance at Ellerslie. Royal Appellant and Kilberis have form that entitles them to respect, but a better prospect than either may bo the southerner Epris, who won the Winter Cup last August and is in great heart at present. Gay Rose and Gay Broney would be more at home- over a longer journey and they may be accounted for by Sinking Fund, who has run some of his best races at a mile. Bonny Gay and Royal Secret are possibilities, and two other v cry likely light-weights are Gay Seton, who was third* last year, and Crooning. Tonnerre. Valspear, Star Artist, Haut Monde and Adalene are all capable of running good races and Haut Monde would be dangerous if he reproduced Ids track form. The favourites may be
