BALANCING A COIN
This trick, a variation of several others of the same nature, requires two articles, which you may have some difficulty in obtaining in these days of shingled heads and "cloche" hats. Howover, possibly one of the older members of the party may be able to come to your rescue, and provide you with a hairpin and a hatpin! With the aid of these and a finger ring, you are required to balance a halfpenny on the end of the hatpin. ■# The first step is to bend the hairpin into roughly the shape shown in "a." Insert the halfpenny in the loop formed at one end, bending it closely until it forms a secure clip for the coin. Then hang the finger ring on the hook formed at the other end. After one or two trials it will be found possible even to set the coin revolving on the pinhead by gently blowing on the ring.
