RAILWAY LINK URGED
POPULAR WAIHI BEACH . NO SUPPORT BY COUNCIL [by TELEORAPH—OWN correspondent] WAIHI, Friday Comment on a proposal that Waihi Beach be linked by rail so that easy access could be given to that seaside resort was asked lor by Mr. J. Thorne, M.P. for Thames, nt the meeting of the Waihi Borough Council. A letter on the subject from a beach resident, Mr. J. E. Harris, which had been sent to Mr. Thorne, was read. In his ietter, Mr. Harris said the Waihi railway station was five and a-half miles away, but thu flag station at Waimata was only five miles away. He sow i! 0 engineering difficulties in the way of building a line from there to the beach, to which Ministers of the Crown had referred as a potential playground and health resort for the whole of the Waikato. The Mayor, Mr. W. M. Wallnutt, said he thought that engineering difficulties would bo mot. A tar-sealed road was expected to be provided soon, and so ready and easy aoess to the beach would be available. The council decided to take no action.
