WARDEN AT UNIVERSITY
NEW ZEALANDER APPOINTED POSITION IN MELBOURNE, [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] CHRISTCHURCH, Friday After having been in charge of the natural science department of the Christchurch Technical College for the past two years, Dr. W. Bryden has been appointed warden of Union House, Melbourne University, from 28 applicants. "In his new position,, which is the first of its kind in Australia or New Zealand, Dr. Bryden will coordinate students' activities and act as an intermediary between the students and the staff.
Dr. Bryden had a brilliant career as a scholar and sportsman.. He was educated at Kaiapoi, Rangiora and Canterbury College, whence he graduated M.Sc. in 1926. While employed by the Tasmanian Department of Agriculture he won a scholarship which took him to study at Canberra. In 1932 he went under a scholarship to Edinburgh University, where he studied animal husbandry for two years, at the end of which he was awarded his doctorate. Dr. Bryden represented Canterbury College and Edinburgh at Rugby. While at Canterbury College he was prominent in students' organisations and was nominated as a Rhodes Scholar. He will take up his new position about June.
