AMERICAN STATES EXTENT OF DISASTER FLOODS NOW REPORTED GREAT DAMAGE CAUSED By Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright (Recoived April 8, 5.45 p.m.) NEW YORK, April 7 Rising rivers have added a threat qf widespread floods to the/distress of the six southern States of America which were stricken by yesterday's storm. . It is reported that 450 bodies have been recovered and that 1727 people were badly injured in the storm, besides many hundreds less seriously hurt. The damage is estimated at 25,000,000 dollars. Four inches of rain fell in the night and flood waters coursed through the Carolina foothills. These washed away bridges, flooded highways and drove hundreds of people from their homes. The American Red Cross announces that the.. storm produced the third worst disaster on record in the United States. It will take 10 years for the affected communities, which are not rich industrially, to recover from their economic losses.
