BRITISH. ARMY TRAINING' INTERNAL DEFENCE STEPS ' LONDON, April 7 "The British.Army is being trained to use poison gas as a legitimate form of modern warfare," said the Secretary of State for ■ War, Mr. Alfred Duff C(ioper, in reply to a question in the House of Commons. Mr. R. A. Gary (Conservative —Eccles), had asked for an iassurance that the Army had not descended to the use of poison gas as a retaliation. Mr. R. H. Berneys "(Conservative — North Bristol) asked: Is poison gas a legitimate weapon ? ~ Mr. Geoffrey Lloyd, Under-Secretary for Home Affairs, said the questions of the protection qf infants* and young children, of action necessary to prevent the contamination of food and water, and of the possibility of gas reaching ti« tube railways were being considered.
