April 7 The Daily Telegraph's diplomatic correspondent, says he believes j'rance and Britain will ask Baron i loisi at Geneva if Italy is prepared to halt the campaign in Abyssinia, in which case sanctions would be lifted. It'is the British view that it is most Drgent to end the slaughter of the virtually defenceless Abyssinians. i Viscount Snowden, in a letter to tie Times, says: "For six months Italians have murdered innocent and defenceless people by devilish methods, with the encouragement and active help of the League Powers, which have made the League aa object of pitv and contempt. "Is British opinion calmly to acquiesce in seeing Abyssinians annihilated by erery hellish device of murder? "If the old spirit of liberty survives the voice of England will speak so loudly t!iat the Government must act immediately to remove the disgrace that we are responsible for these atrocities and for the encouragement given to Italy bj the League." A message from Geneva says Abyssinia has issued a supreme appeal to all the members of the League for assistance, criticising by implication the attitude of some of them in tho face at Italy's violation of the Covenant.
