SIX MAORI PADDLES
DISCOVERY ON A FARM REVEALED DURING DRAINING [from oi'R own correspondent! WHANGAREI. Wednesday While draining 011 his property Otaika recently Mr. R. W. Gunsott found a bundle of six old Maori paddles. Five are between 6ft. and 7ft. longi while the other is much longer. Tb® latter has a number of notches cut u> the sides, and was probably used for steering. Each paddle has a differently dssigned handle. When found they, wcrfl neatly bundled together and ha apparently been pushed in "among t rushes and utimately became covered with silt.
