FARMHOUSE BURNED
OUTBREAK AT NETHERTON PRACTICALLY NOTHING SAVED [by telegraph OWN correspondent] PAEROA, Wednesday Fire yesterday destroyed a farmhouse owned and occupied by Mr. R. Prout, on Fisher's Road, Netherton. Mr. Prout and his family were in Pacroa at the time, and the fire, which occurred at mid-day was discovered by a tradesman. An effort was made to suppress the flames, but as no water was available all attempts were useless. The house was a fairly old one and burned rapidly. Practically nothing was saved. The building and contents were insured.

"Wednesday The Tangiteroria school narrowly escaped destruction through fire yesterday One corner of the building caught alight, but, by strenuous efforts, Mr. and Mrs. A. Hamlin, Mr. Mansell, the head teacher, Mr. F. Tolker, Mrs. Tolker, and Mrs. Harnett, a visitor, were successful in preventing the spread of the flames. It was fortunate that there was no wind, otherwise nothing could have saved the building.
