Wednesday A lull In strenuous politics during the Easter holidays will be nothing more than a breathing space for Parliament. Additional vital measures are in prospect. The Prime Minister, Mr. Savage, in an interview to-day said Parliament would resume on Thursday next at 2.30 p.m., when it was planned to take the second readings of the Employment Promotion Bill and the Labour Department Amendment Bill. Immediately those had been disposed of it was the intention of the Government to introduce the Guaranteed Prices Bill, covering the dairy industry. By that time it was expected that the Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Amendment Bill would be returned to the House from the Labour Bills Committee. In addition a Transport Bill would be introduced. "The aim of the Government," Mr. Savage explained, "is to place on the Statute Book five or six < major bills which represent the legislative machinery for giving effect to its proposals to help the people as a whole. When that has been provided the Government will be in a position to go straight ahead with its policy and determination to carry out its promises to the electors.
"In view of the progress already made it looks as though we will be able during May to arrange an adjournment of Parliament for five or six weeks," Mr. Savage continued. "This prospective recess will enable the Government to prepare for the normal activities of the session—the Budget estimates, public works and so on."
