ONEHUNGA FINANCES
MAYOR REVIEWS POSITION REORGANISATION RESULTS Confidence in the results achieved last year is expressed by the Mayor of Onehunga, Mr. J. Park, in his annual report to the Borough Council. The reorganisation of borough operations and staff, he says, reveals a satisfactory position in the accounts and, although the indebtedness had been increased by £2450, it was maintained that this was absolutely necessary to secure the desired efficiency from the staff and place the operations of the borough on an up-to-date business basis. Mr. Park points out that, against this nonrecurring expenditure, during the next two years at least four times the amount will be saved by improved- efficiency in organisation The amount received from arrears of rates and current rates exceeded the estimate by £3327. Regarding the upkeep of Jellicoe Park, it •is recorded that for the first time in many years no moneys of ratepayers have been expended on the area, all the expenditure having been provided out of moneys received for the sale of scoria from Mount Smart. The Mayor urged local bodies to formulate some means whereby a superannuation fund could be established throughout the metropolitan district of Auckland, or even throughout the local body districts of the Dominion The sum of £2916 had been expended on subsidised labour, or 50 per cent of the amount spent on subsidised work. The total receipts amounted to £49,413 and the expenditure to £59,133, leaving a debit balance of £9719, or £2450 in excess of the estimate.
