IMPROVED FINANCES
PAPATOETOE TOWN BOARD RATE COLLECTION 95 PER CENT An improved financial position on the j-ear's operations was reported at a meeting of the Papatoetoo Town Board last night. The clerk, Mr. W. Young, said that of the £7IOO levied as general rates, £6763, representing 95.2 per cent, had been collected. A sum of £1324 was collected in outstanding rates. The board had budgeted for an overdraft of £IOOO, with the intention of reducing the bank indebtedness by £SOO over the year. This had been surpassed as the overdraft at March 31 was £842. The actual saving on the year was £671.
The chairman of tho Finance Committee, Mr, L. J. Kendall, said the board had created permanent assets during the year, which reflected creditably on the committees, whose expenditure had been restrained well within their estimates. This had been the case particularly with the Works Committee. It would be necessary in the coming year to provide more generously for street maintenance.
The chairman, Mr. W. J. Nicholson, said the position was pleasing in view of the difficulties of the past year. In adopting the statement, the board congratulated the clerk on the expeditious handling of the accounts.
