FAIRFIELD BRIDGE

PROGRESS OF WORK FIRST SPAN CONCRETED [from oitb own correspondent] HAMILTON, Tuesday With the Waikato Rh-er at its normal level, the delays caused by flooding in connection with the construction of the Fairfield bridge have given place to renewed activity. The concreting of the first span is nearly completed, and a start has been made with the driving of piles for the next pier. Scaffolding work has been erected for the concreting of the second span, and arrangements are being made for the diversion of river traffic to the eastern bank while tho span in the centre of the river is being built. There are 26 men employed on the bridge. The erection of the new bridge has created a demand for land on the eastern side of the river near the bridge. Much of the land in the vicinity has been devoted to farming in the past. One block of 20 acres has been subdivided into 90 residential sections.
