CHEQUE FOR WOOL

AUCKLAND PAYMENTS £375,000 FROM THIRD SALE SEASON'S TOTAL ABOUT £940,000 LARGE INCREASE ON LAST YEAR For wool sold at the third Auckland sale sheep farmers of tho province will to-day receive an aggregate amount estimated at about £375,000. This will bring the total realisation for the season to practically £940,000, which is fully equal to that of the 1933-34 season, which marked a welcome recovery of wool values after four poor years. Last year the total amount realised was £344,030.

Although final figures will not be available until to-day, from latest information it appears that, of a total offering of 32,414 bales, some 31,500 bales were sold either at auction, or subsequently, the largest clearance made in Auckland in recent years. The price a bale should be within a few shillings of £l2, an indication of the steadiness of the market through the season, the value at the November and January sales being £l2 2s and £l2 2s Id, respectively. " Considering the fact that the wool was heavier in condition and that a large proportion of the offering was only fair quality, Auckland woolgrowers have every reason to be pleased with results at the last sale," said a broker yesterday. " Actually the sale took place just on the turn of the market, before the slight decline occurred in the South. The exceptional clearance has been most gratifying."

OFFERING AT NAPIER DOMINION SEASON CLOSING [by TELECRAI'H —OWN correspondent] NAPIER, Tuesday The "wash-up" wool sale of 11,500 bales, the final New Zealand sale of the 1935-36 season, will take place in Napier to-morrow night. The offering is an average to inferior top-making selection. Most lots are late shorn, with discoloration due to weather. The stain is generally very pronounced. With t&e exception of a few early shorn lots, which have been held back from previous offerings owing to transport difficulties, the offering is dull and unattractive.

One large Hawke's Bay clip, consisting of well over 200 bales, provides a wide range of selection which should meet with general competition. Such a large clip for a late-season offering is most unusual. Many of the entries, however, consist of small oddments and will be offered as star lots.
