TE RAPA GALLOPS

WAHINE REIHI'S SIX USEFUL EFFORT BY MERIAL YOUNG PADDON COMING ON [by telegraph—OWN correspondent] HAMILTON, Tuesday The course proper, 20ffc. out from the rails, was available for fast work at To Rapa this morning. Heavy fog enveloped the course early and delayed the work. The best effort of the morning was credited to Wahine Reihi, who finished a cotiplo of lengths in front of Gay Streak at the end of six furlongs in 1.17, the first half-mile occupying 51 l-ss. Wahine Reihi is entered for tho second day at the Ellerslie meeting and she should givo a good account of herself.

Young Paddon, who has been showing promise lately, was on terms with Matoru at tho end of half a milo in 52£s. Lo Chasseur and a Commandant gelding ran five furlongs in 1.6 2-5, tho first half-mile in 53 l-ss.

Mangukaha and Chaytor ran two furlongs along tho back in 245. Curlew was in front of Parquet over a round, encompassed in 2.5 1-5, the first half-mile in 54 4-ss.

Orac finished in front of Respectful and Royal Divorco over five furlongs in 1.5J, the first half-mile taking 52 2-ss.

After jumping two pony fonces along the back Kanapa and Stanstead hit out over a round in 2.10 4-5. Merial finished a shade in front of Gay Flier over five furlongs in 1.5, the first half-mile occupying Sljs. Teak, who was galloped on tho No. 1 grass, was timed to run half a mile in 51 Js. He is bearing a healthy appearance.

On the plough Full of Scotch and High Commissioner were together at the completion of a circuit in 1.54. A. J. Julian's team was restricted to strong pace-work. There was little between Te Monatekapa and Rex Victor at the end of five furlongs in 1.75, the first half-mile in 545. Over a similar distance Dark Shadow clocked 1.5J, running the first half-mile in 53 l-ss.

DUNGARVAN AS SPRINTER PETRARCH'S PROGRAMME [by telegraph OWN correspondent] PALMERSTON NORTH. Tuesday After a light frost, conditions were splendid for training at Awapuni this morning. The flags were wide out. Hunting Lodge (W. J. Broughton) proved to be too good for Alloa (S. Anderson) at the close of a six furlongs task, to run 1.21. Round Score, who was flying at the finish of the Napier Cup on Saturday, was restricted to an easy task on the plough. The Greyspear gelding does not look any the worse for the outing. Dungarvan (W. Broughton) essayed the role of sprinter when ho ran six furlongs with Bodyline (S. Anderson). In the early stages Dungarvan led, but they were together at the close. They ran the first three furlongs in 39 3-ss, four in 53 2-os, and the full journey in 1.20. It was a very useful work-out, for neither was asked to give of his best.

Mirth (W. E. Pine) jumped away beyond the half-mile peg to come home the last three furlongs in 41s. Tiger Bill and Petrarch were partners over a mile on the plough, the only gallop on that track. They ran six furlongs in 1.19 2-5 and the full journey in 1.47 2-5. Petrarch drew clear in the final furlong. He will race on the flat on the first day at Feilding and will contest the hurdle ovent on Easter Monday. Bazaine left five furlongs behind in 1.5 2-5. He had a substantial weight. Ingenuity (G. Tattersall) showed a good turn of speed by running six furlongs in 1.21, but she was kicked out at- the finish. Waitohu traversed a mile in 1.50 4-5, the first five furlongs in 1.8 2-5. Star Flier (Anderson), who will contest the maiden event on the second day at Feilding, ran three furlongs in 38s. A four-year-old mare by Cockpit, she will carry the same colours as did Inflation. Martial Lady (Anderson) was nearly a length clear at the finish of a six furlongs gallop with War Lap (Tattersall). They ran the first two furlongs in 26 2-ss, and five in 1.6 1-5. War Lap appears to have trained off.

LOCIILAGGAN'S COURSE ABSENTEE FROM RICCARTON? [by telegraph—OWN correspondent] DUNEDIN, Tuesday It is stated that Lochlaggan, one of the favourites for the Great Easter Handicap, may not go to Riccarton. The rumour is based on the report that transport arrangements to tako her north have not yet been made. NOTES 'FROM EVERYWHERE TRACK AND STABLE GOSSIP C. Robinson is again working Balbus, while he has a racy-looking yearling half-sister (by Peach Brandy) to educate.

Wino has resumed work under M. li. Edwards at Yaldhurst. lie was operated on for throat trouble. Hunting Lodge and Alloa will go to Tauherenikau. S. Wilson will ride Alloa, but no jockey has been engaged for Hunting Lodge. Havering is now in E. J. Ellis' stable at Washdyke and lie will bo prepared for liurdlo racing during the winter. Dawning Light has been taken in hand once again by W. Pine at Awapuni, but it is that trainer's intention to hack her about for three months. Her big frame requires filling out. .J. W. Jennings was engaged for Queen of Song in both the Groat Easter and Great Autumn Handicaps, but as tho Washdyke mare will be missing from tho formet event, he accepted tho mount in that race on Variant.

The jockey, W. Sibritt, who arrived from Jndia last week on a three months' visit to New Zealand, has made Riccarton his headquarters in tho meantime. He is prepared to ride at next week's meeting, but so far ho has not received any engagements. Studley Royal, who remained in W. McDonald's hands after tho return of E. Holmps from Australia, has not done any fast work of late, owing to one of his joints giving trouble, and unless ho improves this week, it is not likely ho will be asked to race at Easter. In any case, he is to bo turned out next week for the winter months.
