ELLERSLIE TRAINING

COURSE PROPER TRIALS REREATU BEATS NUN NICER QUADROON AND WAGNER PLEASE BY ARCHER Rereatu was responsible for tho fastest gallop at Ellerslie yesterday, when he defeated Nun Nicer by several lengths over seven furlongs in 1.30 4-5. The outside of tho course proper, tho poles being out 55 feet, was available for fast work and the conditions wero favourable except for a fog, which made it impossible to see the horses when were travelling between tho 6ix and three furlongs posts in the early part of the morning. On tho course proper Solas (Bigham) strode over six furlongs in 1.23 4-5. Valspear (Tremain) covered seven furlongs comfortably in 1.34. He lightened up a little as a result of his racing at Whangarei, where his form was scarcely good enough to suggest him as an Easter Handicap prospect. However, he should mot bo entirely discredited for his defeats, as he did not have the best of luck.

Shy (Fearn) easily defeated Persian Lady (Cameron) over seven furlongs in 1.34 1-5. The former has plenty of size and created a good impression, doing his work really well. Gay Broney (McTavish) and Hohana (Tremain) were on terms' at the end of six furlongs in 1.22 2-5. They failed to do as well as anticipated at Whangarei last week. Rereatu (Gilchrist) was about throe lengths in front of Nun Nicer (Vaughan), with Psychologist (Fearn) beaten off, at the end of seven furlongs in 1.30 4-5, Psychologist taking 1.36. Rereatu and Nun Nicer were both lightly weighted, and although the latter would not have much more than 7.0, he probably had more than a stone the worse of the weights. They were together until reaching the straight and Rereatu drew away in the last furlong. It was a satisfactory trial on tho part of both horses and they are very well.

Epris and Kilberis Royal Appellant (Cameron) was a couple of lengths in advance of Roman Mascot (Clifford) at the end of seven furlongs in 1.32 1-5. Royal Appellant, usually a lazy worker, went with plenty of freedom. His dismal failure in the Mclmnes Memorial Handicap at Whangarei last week is difficult to account for. Kelly (Gilchrist) and Greek Shepherd (Clifford) went nicely to finish on terms at the conclusion of seven furlongs in 1.34 1-5. Kelly had considerably the better of the weights and was going the easier at the finish, although Greek Shepherd did his work in good style. Epris (liaker) and Kilberis (Cammick) could have improved upon the 1.20 4-5 they occupied while running six furlongs. Epris' rider lost an iron just after the jump-off, and, in the circumstances, the effort of the Shambles gelding was very pleasing. Kilberis also went soundly.

Wagner (McTavish) and Quadroon (Tremain) easily defeated Raepata (Fearn) over half a mile in 50 4-ss. Wagner has improved and Quadroon went pleasingly for a maiden two-year-old. The latter has had a bruised foot, but displaj'sd no sign of soreness during his work or afterwards. Golden Blonde (Dulieu) completed useful work over six furlongs by sprinting home the last three in 39 l-ss. King Mestor (Tremain) was given a working gallop over a mile and a-half, running the last mile and a-quarter in 2.21 2-5. He appears to have benefited by his recent racing. Lordly Knight's Seven

Refresher (Davoren) was going bettor than Tahurangi (Clifford) when they had completed six furlongs in 1.22 2-5, the first three in 41 2-ss. Refresher has come through his recent racing and travelling splendidly and should strip well to contest the Easter Handicap. Vera Acre (Sargent) and Captain Bruce (Tremain) placed six furlongs behind in 1.21 1-5. Captain Bruce is hitting out with more freedom than formerly. Illimani and King Spear covered seven furlongs in 1.42 1-5.

Lordly Knight (l)avoren), after running the first four in 51 2-sa. covered seven, furlongs in 1.33 1-5, but was not impressive. On the tan Fleetwind covered the last five of Bix furlongs in 1.12 3-5, Gallant Knight (Walsh) ran the last seven furlongs of a round in 1.42 1-5; Free Advice encompassed a round in 1.53 3-5. Valniint worked over a circuit, running the last seven furlongs in 1.38 3-5. On the No. 3 grass Te Hai worked usefully over a round. Marjory Daw riVemain) sprinted three furlongs in 39 4-ss. Schooling of Jumpers Saltspray {H. Thomas) set out to jump four hurdles, and, after clearing the first three safely, crashed heavily at the fourth, at which he failed to rise. Saltspray appeared to be uninjured. but his rider was severely shaken. Woe Pat (L. Dulieu) and Victor Colima (Fergus) gave a very satisfactory display over four hurdles. They afterwards worked over a round on the course proper, Wee Pat finishing clear in 2.12 3-5. Knight of Australia (Fearn) gave them a start and was on tonus with Wee Pat at the finish, hia time being 2.10 4-5. Puccini (C'raildock) led Billy Boy (Baker) and Town Beauty (Fergus) over a round of the steeplechase fences. Puccini chanced several fences, but displayed cleverness and infused plenty of dash into his work, which was pleasing for a horse in his class. Billy lioy and Town Beauty fenced in their usual polished style. Thespis (Burgess) commenced at the fence near the mile post and went round over the steeplechase fences. However, he did not have much pace on and slowed up to a cantor between the obstacles.

HORSE DISQUALIFIED TERM OF FIVE YEARS [BY TELEGIfUPH —I'IIKSS ASSOCIATION] WANGANUI, Tuesday The Wanganui District Committee today hold an inquiry into tho ownership of the horse Discoursive, who has been raced at recent meetings. The committee decided that Norman Arnold Dalziell, of Palmerston North, be disqualified for five years and that the horse Discoursive be also disqualified for five years, the terms of the disqualifications to date from December 18, 1934, the date of the reported sale of Discoursive to William Shearman. Shearman was reprimanded for his refusal to give a statement when required to do so by the racecourse inspector, Mr. Black, but in view of his explanation no punishment was inllicted by the District Committee. Discoursive is a four-year-old mare by Thomond from Discourse and last appeared at the Kangitikei Racing Club's meeting a month ago.
