CANADIAN TARIFF

REPEAL OF OTTAWA PACT WOVE BY LIBERAL MEMBER (Received March 1, 5.5 p.m.) OTTAWA. Feb. 29 The repeal of the 1933 statute implementing the Ottawa Conference agreement with Britain, with the revocation of the tariff schedules therein, was sought in the House of Commons in a resolution moved by Mr. J. F. Pouliot, a Liberal member. Mr. Pouliot has given notice that he will ask the House to declare that the agreement should be revoked and that it would substitute the 1930 amendment to the Customs Act, brought down by the Liberal Government of that day, known as the Dunning Budget. He contends that there is dissatisfaction with the Ottawa agreement in Britain. Canada, he says, liad succeeded in negotiating a pact with the United States. It was time to try the Dunning Budget, which was designed to promote trade between Canada and Britain, but was nullified by the defeat of the Liberal Government in 1930 before it could be tried.
