PARLIAMENT ON THE AIR "REASONABLE DOSES" ONLY CHIEF LEGISLATIVE MEASURES , [by TELEGBArH —PRESS ASSOCIATION J WELLTX-GTOX, Friday The radio broadcasting of important political statements and debates will come into operation , in New Zealand immediately after the opening of Parliament on March 25. Arrangements are being made for the installation of the necessary apparatus. "I have discussed the matter with » the chairman of the Broadcasting Board," said the Prime Minister, Mr. Savage, to-day, "and v,e are making arrangements for the broadcasting of some of the main debates in the coming session—that is. the debates on the principal legislative proposals. In this, as in most other things, we have to • crawl before we can walk. "We realise, of course, that all listeners may not desire to listen to political speeches," continued Mr. Savage, "and for that reason we will have to give it to them in reasonable doses at the beginning. It would be unreasonable to load the YA stations with politics. There are other things that must be put on the air. All that we have to do and all that we mean to do, is to make intelligent use of radio broadcasting. We have no intention of inflicting upon listeners something they don't want to listen to." Departmental hare twn scanning the interior, of Parliament House with the view to planning th« most effective method of broadcasting the debates.
