NEW CATHEDRAL
MISS HORTON'S BEQUEST PROFESSIONAL ADVISER » MR. F. L MOODIE APPOINTED After a conference with the president of the Now Zealand Institute of Architects, Mr. W. Gray Young; of Wellington, the cathedral building committee latoly set up by the Auckland Anglican Synod has appointed Mr. F. L. Moodie, of Auckland, to be its professional adviser in the stops that are to be taken preparatory to the erection of a cathedral in Parnell under the terms of the bequest made by the lato Miss M. T, ETorton. Miss Horton's will, the provisions of which were made known last May, directs that her residuary estate, which it ifi estimated will amount to about £60,000, is to be paid by / her trustees to the General Trust Board of the Auckland Diocese for the cathedral building fund when certain conditions have been complied with. One of these is that the trust board or other controlling authority must accept a competitive design for the cathedral within seven years of the testator's death, and the trustees are authorised to pay out of the trust fund a sum not exceeding £IOOO for the accepted design. The building must be commenced within 10 years of the testator's death. The Diocesan Synod last October passed resolutions accepting the bequest and ratifying an undertaking which the General Trust Board had previously given to the trustees, of the estate. It also set up a clerical and lay committee, with Archbishop Averill as chairman, to co-operate with the trust board iq taking the necessary steps to prepare for the erection of the building. The committee was directed to authorise arid control all necessary operations and to take steps to appeal to the people of the diocese for money needed to supplement the bequest.
