AUCKLAND BANDS
Sir, —Included in tho news during the last few days have been the results of the brass bands contest now taking place at New Plymouth. Bands from all parts of New Zealand, and even one from Australia, have been welcomed to New Plymouth. Is it not very disappointing that no bands from Auckland are attending? Auckland has the largest population of any city or town in New Zealand, and yet is not represented by a band at the contest. It has been left to a young boy from the Auckland Blind Institute and Auckland Battalion Band to put Auckland on the map at this contest. I should like to know why Auckland has not sent one of the bands to the contest. Is the playing not up to contest standard, or do the bands lack public support ? Melody.
