NORTHCOTE BOROUGH

MORE RATES COLLECTED ONEWA ROAD PROPOSALS A marked improvement in the collection of rates this year was reported to the Northcote Borough Council last night by the town clerk, Mr. A. P. Paitry. The year's rates levied totalled £10,619, of which £8648 was received. The sum of was also collected on the arrears totalling £3021-, leaving £I3OO outstanding. The collections, 'compared with tho same period last year, showed that £I4BB more was received for the period ended February 22. A letter from H. Bray and Company, Limited, advised that a reduction of £167 could be made in the firm's tender for the reconstruction of Onewa Road, making the price £3029, by using MeCalium's red metal for base and shingle for blinding the surface. The council decided to call fresh tenders. The Mayor, Mr. R. Martin, was appointed delegate to the conference of the New Zealand Municipal Association to be held at' Napier.
