OBITUARY
MR. HAROLD BENNETT [by telegraph —OWN correspondent] PAEROA, Tuesday A well-known resident of the Paeroa district, Mr. Harold Bennett, was found dead in his bed on Saturday morning at the Criterion Hotel, Paeroa, where he has been residing for the past four rears. The late Mr. Bennett was a son 'of the late William Bennett, of Geraldine, one of the earliest settlers in that district. Deceased was 57 years of age, and spent many years of his life in farming in Canterbury and later in the Waikato and Tauranga districts. For several years he wan part owner of the Commercial Hotel, Hamilton, in partnership with Messrs. Glen Lewis and T. Bottom ley, and later he was proprietor of the Katikati Hotel. Deceased was well known in sporting circles and had owned and raced several horses. Mr. Bennett, who served in the Boer War with the Canterbury Roughriders, was given a military funeral on Sunday.
