LARGE THRESHER SHARK
ELEVEN BWORDFIBH CAUGHT AUCKLAND PARTY'S SUCCESS ■■ ■' " ■ v [by TELEGRAPH —OWN correspondent] TAITRANGA, Tuesday A thresher shark weighing 6101b. and 11 swordfish were included in the catch made at Mayor Island during the week-end by Mr. L. Heard and his party, of Auckland. One swordfish charged the launch, breaking its sword, and inflicting minor damage to the hull with a glancing blow. Mr. T. Morpeth landed the thresher shark and five swordfish, Mr. Heard caught three swordfish and a mako shark, and Mr. V. Salek caught three swordfish. The thresher and 10 swordfish were caught off Mayor Island, and the mako shark and the other swordfish off Slipper Island. FISHING IN THE NORTH GOOD SPORT OBTAINED [BY TELEGRAPH —OWN CORRESPONDENT] TOTARA NORTH, Tuesday During the past throe days Messrs. Watson, of Suva, and Ellis, of Hamilton, have landed 10 swordfish. Mr. Watson's average, which includes an 8951b. black marlin, is 4151b. Mr. Ellis caught six fish, averaging 2361b. Mr. J. T. B. Taafl'e, of Kaitaia, landed two swordfish yesterday, one of them weighing 2621b.
