CAPTAIN SPRING-BROWN END OF LONG SEA SERVICE The directors of the Union Steam Ship Company presented a handsome solid silver salver to Captain J. F. Spring-Brown, who recently retired from the company's service. At the ceremony in Wellington, Mr. N. S. Falla, chairman of directors, referred t& the lone association of Captajn Spring-Brown with the company, whose service he first joined in 1900 as third officer. . ii" Captain Spring-Brown obtained his first command in the old Wainui in 1910. Early in 1920 he returned to the (Jnion Company, and his later commands included the .Mfikura, Marama, Maunganui, Tahiti, Sussex, and Niagara. In February i 1931, he was given command of the Aorangi, in which vessel he remained until his retirement. Accompanied by his wife, Captain Spring-Brown loft Wellington last week for Sydney, where they intend to reside.
