SCOUTS IN CAMP

GATHERING AT GREEN BAY VISIT BY ROTARIANS Over 100 Boy Scouts and scoutmasters spent an enjoyable week-end under canvas at Green Bay to celebrate the 79th birthday of the Chief Scout, Lord Baden-Powell. The camp was held on the property which Mrs. M. C. Preston lias lent to the Boy Scouts' Association, and the development work carried out by th& boys and their scoutmasters was most evident. Fire-break roads have been cut through the scrub and 1500 ft. of water piping has been laid to convey drinking water through the. camp, which covers 20 acres. The Wolf Cub section of the camp has been provided with a cookhouse with hot and cold water and range to facilitate the preparation of meals for the cubs, who are generally looked after by "camp mothers." Some 15 troops from various parts of the city and suburbs were represented at the camp. Each troop has its own section, which it has laid out among the pine trees. The beauty of the place has been preserved, and each troop's camp is quite private and well sheltered from wind and sun. - Rotary Club members and their friends visited the camp on Sunday to inspect the development work, which had been made possible as a result of the generosity of various members of the club. The visitors were received by , Mr. W. J. Holdsworth, Metropolitan Commissioner, and Mr. Alex Service. City Commissioner. After a tour of inspection, afternoon tea was served to the visitors, and Mr. J. R. Middleton, camp warden, expressed the thanks of the association for the practical interest and support of the Rotary Club. Mr. J. O'Connor, president of the Rotary Club, in replying, said how glad he was that members of the club were taking an interest in such a worthwhile • object. He congratulated Sir Joseph Smith, chairman of the Boys' Work Committee, and Mr. Holdsworth, on the success of their effort to secure material for the development work.
