SOCIAL AT OSTEND
FAREWELL TO RESIDENTS The Waiheke Returned Soldiers' Club, in conjunction with the "Waiheke I'ootball Club, held a pleasant evening of cards and dancing in the Ostend Hall on Saturday in honour of Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Matthews, who have resided in the Rocky Bay district for the past six years. There was an attendance of over 100 guests from various parts of the island. Mr. and Mrs. Matthews will shortly leave Waiheke. In 1933 Mr. Matthews was vice-president of the soldiers' club and he was president in 1934-35. He was president of the football club from 1933-35. On behalf of the two clubs, Mr. T. Deyell, of Ostend, presented Mr. and Mrs. Matthews with a rug. Mr. Matthews responded on behalf of his wife and himself. The dance music was supplied by Mr. T. Deyell and Messrs. P. and T. O'Brien. The card winners were Mrs. A. Fenton and Mr. Pearson, both of Onetangi, while in the dancing competition Miss S. Green, of Palm Beach, and Mr. B. Morris, of Ostend, were the winners.
