HAMILTON CATHEDRAL GIFT OF A CARVED STONE [from our own correspondent] HAMILTON, Saturday An inscribed block of stone dedicated by the Archbishop of Canterbury at the Empire service in Canterbury Cathedral on June 15 last has -been placed in a pillar on the south side of the nave of St. Peter's Cathedral, Hamilton. Carved on the stone is a cross of unusual design. A plate near the stone bears a Latin inscription, the translation of which is as follows:—" This cross is a copy of one made, perhaps in Kent, in the eighth century. It is set in stone taken from the walis of Christ Church, Canterbury. As the emblem gf'salvation and the earnest of friendship it was given to this cathedral by the Friends of Canterbury Cathedral, 1935."
