NORTH ISLAND RALLY

FIXTURE NEXT MONTH THREE DAYS* MEETING Encouraged by the success of last year's rally, the Automobile Association (Wanganui), with the assistance of the associations at Auckland, Taranaki, South Taranaki, Manawatu, Wairarapa and Wellington, has arranged another North Islnd Rally, to be held on March 7, 8 and 9. It is hoped that there will be a good muster of Auckland motoring enthusiasts. One does not need to be the owner of a new car, or even a fast one, to enter. As the name implies, the gathering is a rally of motorists to one particular place. There are nine starting points, Auckland, Hamilton, Gisborne, Rotorua, Napier, Wellington, Palmerston North, Wanganui and New Plymouth. Competitors will on the Saturday motor from the starting points to Napier, arriving there on the Saturday night. On Sunday they will travel from Napier to Wanganui by various routes. On Monday morning, there will be a short run, terminating in a hill climb, after which the cars will be checked by the officials for defects in lai brakes, electrical system, windscreen wiper, or for any damage to the body sustained on the trip, points being deducted for any faults. In the afternoon the rally will conclude with a series of driving tests. In order that the event will bo not too strenuous, two drivers must be carried, and there will be a break of eight hours at Napier. Times will bo fixed for arrival at and departure from various time check controls en route, and points will bo lost for any deviation from the specified times. In no sense is the rally to be regarded as a speed test. Ten marks will be lost for every breach of tjio motor regulations noticed by the official observers In addition to the usual classes, there are sections for lady drivers and for cars of five years old or more.
