SWIMMING SPORTS
TAKAPUNA GRAMMAR ANNUAL CARNIVAL HELD FINE SENIOR PERFORMANCES Heavy showers of rain during the afternoon interfered with the annual swimming sports of the Takapuna Grammar School, held in the Shelly Beach Baths yesterday, but nevertheless the programme was successfully completed. Competition for the school cups was extremely keen. The senior boys' trophy was Avon by R. Rickerby, who performed remarkably well to win three championship events in good times. The outstanding competitor in the girls' section was J. Finlayson, who won three championships. One record was lowered, this being in the 66 2-3 yds junior championship, which was won by L. WHANGAREI HARBOUR RACE [by telegraph—OWN correspondent] WHANGAREI, Friday The annual harbour swimming race over a course of about two miles was held last evening. Following are the results: —Mise Winnie Wilson (12m 455), 1: I. Conway (5m 30s), 2; Miss E. Spring (10m 14s), 3. The fastest time was recorded by C. Bevington, 43m 30s. The scratch swimmer, W. Morris, did not complete the course.
