WESTFIELD QUOTATIONS DAIRY CATTLE IN DEMAND HIGH VALUES MAINTAINED The improved values of last week wero well maintained at tlie Westfield weekly stock sale yesterday. A large yarding of dairy cattle was forward ami a complete clearance was effected. The attendance of buyers was larger than usual and competition was keen for practically all lines. The average level of values was above recent rates and comparatively few cows wero sold below £3. There was also less disparity between top and average values. The best realisation was £9 for a fine type of Jersey qow, close to profit. Other cows of the same breed and .Jersey and Shorthorn-crosses sold freely at values ranging from £6 10s to £8 15s. Heifers were also keenly demanded and realised up to £7. An advertised line of Jerseycross heifers, ex the North, realised up to £6, the average value being £5. An advertised line of dairy cows from the herd of Mr. A". Collie, of Brookby, met with a good sale, the average price being in the vicinity of £6 ss. A Shorthorn pedigree bull from the same source realised 52gns. The yarding of store cattle was up to average and was cleared under steady demand at recent rates. The quotations were:

VALUES AT PUKEKOHE [from our own correspondent] PUKEKOHE, Thursday' The yarding of dairy cows and heifers at the stock sale conducted by Alfred Buckland and Sons, Limited, at Pukekohe today was small. The demand was very keen for anything close to profit or just calved, and prices showed a decided improvement on last sale. Best cows made £7 10s to £8 7s Od; best heifers, £6 to £7; backward cows and heifers, £3 10s to £4 10s. The demand for beef cattle was".very keen and boners were in exceptionally strong request. The yarding was large. Heavy prime cows and heifers made £5 15s to £6 ss; lighter prime, £4 15s to £5 10s; prime steers, £8 17s 6d to £9 10s; boner cows, £1 lis to £2 lGs; coming two-year-old in-calf heifers, £3 15s to £5; cows and calves, £3 to £4 8s; potter bulls, £3 10s to £7 2s 6d; young service bulls, £3 to £4 10s. There was a full yarding of both fat and store pigs. All prime baconers were keenly competed for and valuea, were equal to those ruling at Westfield yesterday. Prices for porkers were very firm at late rates. Large stores sold steadily at recent quotations, but the demand eased considerably for slips and weaners. Limited, Hamilton, reports that at its %veekly Hamilton store sheep sale on Wednesday there was a large yarding, the bulk being aged breeding ewes. There was, however, quite n good proportion of store lambs and a few pens of young ewes. Lambs were in particularly eager demand and a very good sale Wns effected, while young ewes elicited good competition. EJormer values ruled for more aged breeding ewes. FAR NORTH VALUES IMPROVE [by telegraph—OWN correspondent] KAITAIA, Wednesday The North Auckland Farmers' Co-opera-tive, Kaitaia, reports holding a sheep and ram fair at Broadwood and its usual monthly stock sales at Kaitaia and Broadwood this week. There was a full" yarding of sheep at Broadwood with keen competition for wethers, which eold at prices fully on a par with recent sales. Ewes and. lambs, however, showed an eisier tendency and prices were below those of previous sales. There was a good yarding of rams and a total clearance was effected with good competition. Best two-tooth Southdowns made from ogns. to Gigns.; best two-tooth Romneys made from 4gns. to Ggns. At both Knitaia and Broadwood there were full yardings bf cattle and competition was keen throughout, all lots being sold under, the hammer. The general tone of the | cattle market in this district is much better than has been experienced for a long time due to the better prices obtained for cattle at the freezing works. Fat lambs came in in average numbers, competition was keen and late rales fully maintained. The entry incladed the advertised line of 800 Inmbs, offered on account of Messrs. Irvine Bros., the total line being sold at satisfactory prices A smaller entry of fat ewes and wethers showed no appreci able variation in values.
