PRIVATE COMPANY'S PLAN FARMERS' UNION DISCUSSION [BY TELEGRAPH —OWN CORRESPONDENT | DARGA VILLE, Thursday The North Auckland Farmers' Union sub-provincial executive to-day discussed the proposal of a private company to obtain a Government charter for the reticulation of water for the Dargaville district. If it was good enough for water to be brought through by a private company, why should not the Government have the profits for the State? asked Mr. A- F. Gates. Other delegates endorsed this view, saying that it was for the Government, not the settlers, to see that water was supplied to Crown lands. Mr. J. Murphy said the question was not a local body but a Government matter. He thought the Government .would veto the private charter, which would throw the onus on the Government to provide water. It was decided to draw the attention of the Department of Agriculture to the question of the possibility of eliminating eleplu\nt grass, which was regarded as serious A remit congratulating the Prime Minister, Mr. Savage, on his intention to broadcast Parliamentary debates was approved. Ll was decided that the matter of. parasite control of the blowfly be taken up with the department. A remit to the annual conference to have ragwort treated as a national responsibility was approved.
