ENGINE MODELS
V designs old and new • Groat interest has been shown in Wellington in the exhibit of engineering models; arranged by the New Zealand Society of Civil Engineers at Victoria College. The exhibition was largely the idea of Mr. Edgar Swain, who first thought of the advisability of securing models and a variety of educational data in printed form bearing on the bi-centenary of James Watt, the pioneer of the steam engine in its practical form. Mr. Swain's gold modal, a square one, with the original Watt engine forming itii chief design, was the prijso for the steam models, and he also donated a (silver replica for other model making branches. Pride of place at the exhibition was taken by copies of the Watt engines, although there were some splendid models of modern engines.
