WIGRAM AERODROME
NEW BUILDINGS AUTHORISED TENDERS LET FOR £20,000 [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] "WELLINGTON, Thursday Additional buildings are to be put in hand immediately at Wigrarn Aerodrome, Christchurch The prospective cost is about £'20,000. The Minister of Defence, Mr. Jones, explained to-day that at present there is no housing accommodation for the permanent members of the Royal New Zealand Air Force at Wig/am Aerodrome, and consequently the men are compelled to live out. The Cabinet had approved the acceptance of a tender for the construction of single men's barracks and also for the provision of new workshops. The existing workshop, which was taken over from the Canterbury Aviation Company, is altogether too small and has been proved to be incapable of handling the work at the aerodrome. ]t is understood that the cost of the single men's quarters is between £BOOO and £9OOO. the successful tenderer being Mr. C. H. A. Edwards, building contractor. The new workshops, it is estimated, will cost slightly more than £IO,OOO, the contractors being P. Graham and Sons, of Christchurch.
