Paul, aged 48, married, while driving at the Auckland Trotting Club's meeting at Epsom yesterday. Ho drove Nelson Chief to victory in the first race, the Manurewa Handicap, and later was involved in two accidents, receiving injuries necessitating his removal to hospital. While piloting Great Jewel in the Howick Handicap, Mr. Paul was thrown from tho sulky, and was dragged for some distance. However, he retained hold of the reins and stopped tho horse. Ho escaped injury on this occasion, but whilo driving Golden Eagle in tho Forbes Handicap, later in the day, he was again dislodged, suffering head injuries. Tho injured driver was taken to the Auckland Hospital in a St. John ambulance. His condition last night was reported as not serious. An inquiry into the mishap in the Forbes Handicap was held, and it was found that the happening was due to another horse, Waikato Prince, breaking and coining back on Golden Eagle, no blame being attachable to anyone.
