PARTY DIVIDED

NEW SOUTH 1 WALES STATE ANTI-LANG MOVE FAILS SYDNEY, Feb. 17 During an acrimonious discussion yesterday at tho metropolitan conference of tho New South Wales Labour Party, an unsuccessful attempt was made to deprive Mr. J. T. Lang, leader of tho Parliamentary Opposition, of his powers of dictatorship over the caucus. These, it was claimed, recoiled against Labour at the general election, led to internal faction fights and barred tho way to complete unity with the Federal Labour Party.

A motion aiming to restore to tho central executive power to deal with urgent matters of policy between Labour conferences, and to the Parliamentary Labour caucus the right of selecting its own Cabinet, was defeated by 82 votes to 26.
