CARNEGIE CORPORATION FIRST GRANT TO COLLEGE A draft for 5000 dollars —the first of three annual grants to bo devoted to library development —has been received from the Carnegie Corporation of New York by the Auckland "University College.- _ 'ln announcing the receipt of the money at the meeting of the college council yesterday, the president, Mr. T. U. Wells, said that arrangements had already been made for the expenditure of tlie grant. A list of books to be allocated to the various departments of the library had been drawn up, and the books were now being ordered. Also, the librarian, Miss A. E. Minehin, had drawn up a report on the needs and future requirements of the library, copies of which would bo supplied to each member of the council. "This money is being given to us for use on certain defined lines, and we have not an entirely free hand in its expenditure," said the president.
